Default What is the Detachables Lock For?

I'm just wondering what the Detachables Lock is for? I've seen this on the Harley site and I'm not really sure what you do with it.

It replaces the cam latch to a locking cam latch on detachable backrests, tour paks, luggage raks etc.

It locks your detachable hardware onto your bike, to make it *slightly* more difficult for people to steal off of your bike. Someone who really wants to steal your detachable can stick a screwdriver in between the rack and the cam and pop the whole thing off pretty easily. It only thwarts lazy thieves...

I have one on my detachable Tour Pak rack, but it's a bitch to get the long key up under there to unlock it. I never unlock it anyway though - I only got the detachable rack because the solid mount racks that would fit my bike have long been out of production and are very hard to find, and it looks better, too.

Could have saved some bytes by just saying: "It's just for show". LOL

Yeah, like most people, I hate payin' for nonfunctional stuff.

But sometimes ya just have to take the bad along with the good.

I bought one and use it for my detachable back rest, where I lock my helmet to.
When I first went in to get one, they only showed sets of two. When I asked the parts guy he said they did sell them one each. I don't know how theft proof it makes it, but it is better then nothing.

Default It bugged me...

I had one of those ...detachable backrest...came with my last bike I traded in for my Dyna a year ago. It always irritated me because I knew it would be so easy to steal along with all the stuff I had attached to it. I got no sense of security owning it. Most of all it was a testament to the low level that American engineering has gotten to.

it locks the backrest so it makes it not easy to remove and steal when your not around
