Funny,
I was at one dealer and the parts guy (who is always mad if you don't know the part number before you walk in) told me he didn't think I could order it (he refused to look up the part number for the parts book).
where at? conrads?

FYI; the evo engine is still being built, and still running strong.
They are not gone even to HD.
What would you do if everyone started doing all their buying on ebay, or the on line dealerships. You defintely should lose the attitude though it really doesn't put you in a very good light.

Funny thread, but I was broken down and needed some help in Idaho. Dealer told me they don't work on Evo's anymore. Had to find an Indy - Bill's Bike Works someplace in south Idaho. Thank God for Bill. The dealer sucked.

Default I hate (some) Customers (you know who you are)

I work at a dealership too and I recently spent 3 hours on a quote for a guy and he went to shitcago.com and bought all my part #'s and then called after they came in and blamed me because something didn't fit.....That's what I hate!!!

Thats cool. I do have my own catalog. From now on, I'll just look up the part numbers and order online. end result, no need for a local parts guy at the counter. end result, no job for you. Like any other customer service job you take the good with the bad, suck it up and move on. Thats why its called customer service not parts counter guy pms hour.

For what it's worth, the parts guys at my local dealership (Paradise Harley in Tigard) are the nicest, most helpful guys I've encountered anywhere. I try to know what I want before I go in, but they take the time to cross-check the books and even come out and look at my obsolete EVO to be sure.

The other day I was out just cruising around and dropped in for a cable clamp. Guy spent the time to rummage around and find me a couple alternatives and the one I needed was 50 cents. I was embarrassed to find out I didn't have any cash-- he reaches in his pocket and pulls out a couple quarters and says "This one's on me". I could have got a clamp anywhere, but that's why I keep going back-- good service is good for business.

My local part guys are the best! Couple days ago I asked them for condoms. Guy went to closest pharmacy to get them and gave me brand new Ultra to ride around while I was waiting!

I'll say! I've got one, too. He'll finish a part number before I can finish the number rolling off my tongue. He works in parts all day, every day. His knowledge of parts is way more than I can ever be on my best day. When I THINK I know what I want, and he directs me to something else, he is right and I am wrong. He's the best thing going in the dealership.

If you wanna be a parts guy, then learn your stuff and give excellent customer service. If you want a simple life as an order-taker that doesn't strain you too much, go work the drive up window at McDonald's. Just sayin'.

Wow,
I just wish I had gotten on this thread sooner.
GM Parts guy for 32 years. I will help you with whatever you need. Just know what you are working on and have the Fkn VIN! Leave your attitude at home and dont try to tell me what you THINK you know. I am more than willing to help, but let ME help YOU. I certainly dont expect you to know everything or anything for that matter and if you dont give attitude you will get nothing but help and assistance in return. I dont expect you to have the part numbers, that is my job.
I am not a tech so please dont expect me to diagnose your problem. I WILL help you as much as possible. I also dont know what will interchange but will do what I can to find out.
I dont set prices. Dont blame me for what the thing will cost.
Dont blame me because you beat the **** out of your vehicle and broke it.
Yes, I am a Parts *******. Let me help you and I will, EVERYTIME. Just let me.
