I believe the drinking explains the reputation of doing crazy things at parties part. And since he's made it to 62, he's probably tried crazy crap like this before.

LOL! But technically this doesn't qualify for the Darwin Awards, because he didn't die. The Darwin Awards are for people who actually manage to kill themselves while doing something incredibly stupid, preferably prior to reproducing, thereby removing themselves from the gene pool.
1) kill yourself
2) while doing something so bone headily STUPID it boggles the mind.
3) you haven't reproduced(genes thankfully died with award winner)
He qualifies for 2
but hasn't quite got 1 down
, and I don't know about 3
