Time to renew my HOG membership. I never have reaped the benifits. Anyone stay with them after the first free year? How have you benifited? And is it worth it in your opinion?

If you don't know a lot of people and like to ride in groups you can join the local chapter as well. I bought a year once and personally wasted my money. I just bought a bike 6 months ago and will not renew when the one expires. Thats one expensive patch and button you end up buying.

Mostly it depends on your local chaper. If you have no interaction with them; hell, you don't need the national. My local chapter is quite active and my wife enjoys the social aspect. If'n it were just me..., Ida Know

Oh, and I have roadside assistance with my insurance company.

Not to hijack the thread but on the same topic (sort of), do your locals have membership dues in addition to the national and if so do the locals require national membership?

The local chapter has its own dues and requres national membership. It is usually run out of the local dealership. This may be good or bad depending on the dealer.

Yeah I think the local here charges like $20 a year or something. It was sponsored by the local dealership, but now that dealership closed down so not sure what they are going to do.

Wife likes the magazine and we wanted to keep the fly and ride option open. So we're both full members.

From what I understand they only allow $100 for towing so I don't see that being worth squat. We have AAA RVplus and the 1 time we used it we were extremely happy with the service. Also have towing thru Progressive insurance.

Not involved with a local HOG yet.

The only time I've ever been a "member" of HOG was by default when they gave me a free year when I've bought some bikes...never used it any of those times..."free" was about what it was worth...and I definitely never fit in with the HOG groups around here...mostly blue hairs wearing everything the boutique sells, wobbling around on full dress goat boats...

HOG isn't for everyone. Local is a social club in most cases, but can be fun. There are usually groups within the group that ride a lot at all different levels. Usually holds something for everyone.
