Default bike for woman

hey guys, my mom (48 years old) is looking to get a bike. My pops has a 2001 Indian and i just got my 78 shovelhead this past september. My mom took the motorcycle class and she pretty much grew up on dirtbikes and small street bikes her whole life. Now that me and my dad have our own bike, she is sick of sitting on the back and she wants her own.

she wants a small sportster 883, but my dad doesn't want to buy a sportster for some reason, he wants something bigger and something that will be worth more money on resale.

anyway... what kinda bike do you think will be a good "starter" bike but big enough that me or my pops can ride it whenever we wanted haha

Have her got to the to the dealership and sits on the all the bikes. If she feels the most comfortable on a sportster then that is what she should get. If you get her a bike she doesn't feel comfortable on it will be a really pretty addition to your garage decor.
If it is her ride she has to want to ride it.

Softail. They ain't top heavy like the sportsters, they are bottom heavy, much safer, better balanced.

Softail Deluxe seems to be a good match depending on her size. I also think a Street Bob might be a good match. Best advice is to go to dealer and have her sit on a few to see what fits.

+1 on the softail. Best decision my wife made as her first bike.

best advice , couldnt sum it up any better.
you and your dad cant just go an pick a bike out for your mom. she has to go and find a bike that fits her best, it may be a sporty, it may be a softail, hell it may be a full blown bagger but only she will be able to decide for certain

+1 on a softail.....the Deluxe is a great choice....low seat & center of gravity.
