Pulling up next to a stranger
#21
What is acceptable behavior in stop-n-go traffic or at a light?
I was in traffic. It was moving 5mph or less and lots of stopping. The guy on the mc in front of me would ride and stop at the very left side of the lane. I stayed to the right but would never pull up next to him. I do the same at lights. He seemed to be open to me pulling up next to him but I never did.
What do y'all do?

We have a winner. If you pull over in your lane that is an invitation. First in --first out. I will go even further with this. If we are traveling down the rode and I am riding the inside line in my lane---if you pull up still behind me and I think you are going to pass me. Then I move to the outside part of my lane and give you room to pass with a clear view of oncoming traffic. When it comes to riding side by side--never with a stranger. The list of people I let ride by me is counted on one hand.
My general rule of thumb is that if the other guy moves over to the opposite side of the lane that I am on, that is a signal to pull up alongside, and I do. That is also the signal I give to others that it is OK for them to pull up next to me.
However, I also follow the rule that we leave the light in the same order we arrived, and don't ride side by side!

If the other rider is riding center or center left or center right give them their space. If he/she moves full left or full right they are open to being pulled along side.
But......my wife is usually behind me so I stop short so she can pull up beside me.

Nope. I don't share needles and I don't share doob's. Won't share my Ole Lady either but I will share a few of my cheaper tools.
