Pulling up next to a stranger
#12
My general rule of thumb is that if the other guy moves over to the opposite side of the lane that I am on, that is a signal to pull up alongside, and I do. That is also the signal I give to others that it is OK for them to pull up next to me.
However, I also follow the rule that we leave the light in the same order we arrived, and don't ride side by side!

I usually pull up on riders not in a group with half helmets, seems like people are aways willing to shoot the breeze, you full face helmet guys are just to hard for me to talk to, usually can not understand what you are saying.

What is acceptable behavior in stop-n-go traffic or at a light?
I was in traffic. It was moving 5mph or less and lots of stopping. The guy on the mc in front of me would ride and stop at the very left side of the lane. I stayed to the right but would never pull up next to him. I do the same at lights. He seemed to be open to me pulling up next to him but I never did.
What do y'all do?

I (more often than not) would likely stay back, unless I was in a real social mood or had a question for him. When the light changes I would hold back and give him back his space.
I do the same when in front (hang to the left).
What is proper? No clue, He he!

I do this as well...with one little exception...i don't pull all the way even at the lights...give'em alittle wobble room on take off if they need it....then i adjust as needed...pull up even or drop back more..

If I don't want a guy pulling up next to me, I won't lean way to the left of the lane (like the guy in this case did). If you are hugging the left side of the lane, you have no right to be mad at a guy pulling up next to you. You darn near asked him to, so why put a muzzle in his face?
