Camping at Rest Areas.
Sorry to all the out of staters here on the forums but this poll applies to United States Only. I know some of the rules that apply to places like Europe.
Do you camp at rest areas?
Would you go on a 2 day with your spouse ride with 9 other people that made there night time stops at rest areas?
Is it legal to pitch tents at rest areas?
I heard this about our up coming trip in August and I am thinking I will bow out.

I've done it before, I usually just roll out my ***** pad in an inconspicous spot...each state/city is different. Some allow you to pitch camp in city parks, others don't. Roll of the dice.

I wouldn't unless i was carring, i've read about and heard on the scanner to many things that go on at rest areas at night. Not one of the safest places to be unless your locked up in a vehicle.

I don't think I want to do this. I am very protective over my wife and would never want to have her camped out at a rest area with who knows what driving through.

If you are talking Oregon, Wa or Idaho my vote is a no. Traveled through the are many times on trips from Wa to Colo. and would not stay at a rest area.....think you would be asking for trouble with your wife. Stick to high ground.

Lot of stuff goes on around the rest areas. Not sure I wouldn't find a different place, not sure of where.

RE: Camping at Rest Areas.
I have slept in rest areas MANY times. Wait until late at night, find a secluded area, pulled my scooter up next to the table and crashed out. I am not recommending it but I have done it all over the country. Lots of stories here also. I do know that a friend of mine was arrested just for taking a nap in his car at a rest area. Actually hauled away to jail. Guess it is a roll of the dice.
