New 2010 Sportster "48" model
#52
I was at the NY Motorcycle Show yesterday. Mostly a lackluster event. (I carried $1,000 cash to spend, and a wallet full of credit cards, and couldn't find anything I wanted. And there were a lot of "no shows".... But more on that later.) About the only thing that really caught my eye in the Harley display was the "48". I agree, it's not all that innovative, and it probably should be priced lower. But setting those issues aside, I do think it's a nice looking bike. If I were in the market for a Harley on a budget, I would seriously consider it. But yeah, problem is, for a few bucks more, you're in a 96.
FWIW, I like the big front tire. I think a spring seat would look absurd on the bike (it has standard shocks?). I think the tank is the right size. I like the headlight, the handlebars, the mirrors, and most of the color work (black). I don't love the way they painted the tank, and would have that repainted solid black immediately. But overall, it's a really nice looking machine.

I'll post some more on the show when I get a few minutes.

It is not the smallest bike in the line-up. It's a 1200. Beyond that, many small Sporties customized as bobbers or whatnot look awesome with big front tires. And beyond that, who appointed you Brand Police for this forum?

Wait a minute....
I posted yesterday and like the 48 but now realize that something is really off with the bike truly looking like a bobber. I do believe from the looks of it that the 48 is on a standard sportster frame. I went to the website and checked specs. SAME SEAT HEIGHT as most other sportsters.
Damn! Is that where Harley had to save the money? In the frame? A low seat realy makes a bobber. The 48 has a seat height of almost 27 in. In my book that is about 3 in. too high...
Seems all they did to give it a low look is give it short shocks. Well just kick me in the *** Mr. MOCO!
Someone please tell me why such a big and prestigious company would be so cheap as to recycle a standard frame when they could obviously develop a new one that would make the bike a true original?
