It's not audio related, but since you asked about any other must-haves, for me I love the rider's back rest. Most prefer the adjustable variety. Of course, if you plan on changing seats, you'll want to wait to get the one that is for whatever brand you choose.

Congrats on the new ride!

Comfy seat, back rest and exhaust may be more important 'must-haves' than the stock radio speakers (IMO). I have stock speakers and they work very well with my XM radio.

I had a riders backrest on my V Star it was awsome, but your right I will wait until I decide as to whether or not to keep the stock seat before I get one of these. I will ask round locally and maybe I can find some speakers to actually listen to before I decide what to do. I think that is probably the best route before making most changes. I was hoping I would see a strong stand on one side or the other - but of course there are strong opinions on both sides.
Thanks again

I would think two tin cans with a string between them would be better than the factory speakers.

If you want clean sound loudly, you have to buy the speakers with the highest decibel rating at 1 watt/1 meter.
a speaker rated at 96db @ 1w/1m will be much louder than one rated at 87db 1w/1m, maybe twice as loud with the same power applied.

rule 2.
if your stereo or amp produces 50 watts, max volume for a 87 db speaker goes like this.
DB 87 90 93 96 99 102 105
watts 1 2 4 8 16 32 64, or the speaker runs out of power at 103-104bd

Now here is a 96 rated speaker.

DB 96 99 102 105 109 112 115 118
watts 1 2 4 8 16 32 64 128

the difference is about 10db, or about 3 time the volume to the human ear.

ALSO buying a quality low distortion amp, or a GOOD stereo is another key.
You want low distortion at rated power. Given an amp can be a couple hundred watts, you dont have to turn the amp level up all the way. This allows some head room for the system to operate without distortion. Distortion is what kills speakers.

On one of my bikes I run a 95bd rated speaker with about 50 watts and I can hear it at 80mph on the interstate with a fullface helmet on.

Default I dont know about the rest but

I installed a hogwired system in my 08 SEUC3. WHATTA DIFFERENCE over stock and with full volume..no distortion while riding or sitting around the fire with the radio playing LOUD music. Just my 2 cents.
