Default looking for Old-School ideas.

i was always facinated by the bikers in the 50's, 60's and 70's by the individual style that they displayed whether their bikes or clothing and wanted to pick your minds at what stood out in your minds of this period.. i have a 2010 Heritage, black, chrome and leather.. and i would like some ideas of add-ons for the bike or apparel.

Most of what was done/worn was because of cost...I remember doing a rattle can lace paint job on a BSA tank, then using tape pinstripe...it was all we could afford...

Some of the stuff was junk; anyone remember using "slugs" to extend a front end? It was deemed safe by many as long as the slugs were between the upper and lower tree...

What I really miss is the camaraderie...there's a couple million more "bikers" on the road now and while it's friendly it's not the same.....

In the 60s and early 70s it was, to me, what was affordable as already posted. Extended forks and a fat rear tire was a start for the bike after pulling off the stock exhaust and AC and putting on drag pipes or straight fishtails and a round AC. Clothing was Levi 501 jeans, inexpensive leather boots ( steel toe engineer if affordable), a Cycle Champ leather jacket, pocket tee, and until the law changed, a Bell helmet. Later, an S&S carb and electronic ignition to get away from those points that always needed attention.

In the mid or late 70s the helmet was ditched for a bandanna.

And on and on. My memory is shot.

Back in the Late 60s I had a 55 Triumph Ridged , Use ta take it apart
and hang the Frame , Up on Coat hangers in the garage
and Paint it , with Spray Cans
I thought it Looked Great , When I Sold it I had 3 people lined up to buy it
That was Back in the Good Old Days , Rode that thing All over Cali....
AND , the Best Part was NO-HELMUT

Don't add-on, TAKE-OFF. No saddlebags,no windshield, no front fender, solo seat. Get the idea?

I'm thinking Cauncho's and Indian Head Nickel buttons. Fork gaiters and fat white walls. Heritage is a great bike for this.
