Default Garmin GPS - Ridiculous

Good Day.
Purchase a Garmin ZUMO 660 as a Christmas gift to myself.
Do all the necessary steps to make the unit operational with the latest software.
Test the unit on a short trip only to find that the unit is faulty. The unit keeps changing the route as you travel to the destination.
Thank goodness it was a short local trip and I knew where I was going.
Contacted Garmin - they AGREED that the unit was DEFECTIVE from the factory.
I'm told to return it by Garmin.
I get stuck "paying" the return postage because of "Garmin's policies".
WTF?????
A faulty unit received and I have to pay to send it back?
That cost should be borne by either the manufacturer to the dealer ANYBODY but me.
How can this company operate with these types of policies?

Have a GREAT day.

I work at a UPS Store and see this all of the time. There are many companies out there that follow this practice.

Coulda saved yerself some coin by just buying a map

Could just take it back to the store you purchased it at, and get it replaced. Just sayin.

no, actually I've had a lot of customers tell me they can't return the product to the store. They have to send it in. I've packaged and sent quite a few Garmins.

So if one of your Craftsman sockets broke, you'd expect Sears to pay you for your gas to drive to the store for the replacement.

Paying for the return to Garmin is no different. Quit crying.

Well, not trying to start an argument or anything, but with my experience in retail, if a customer purchases a defective product they have 90 days (this applies to most, not all retail stores) to return it with a valid reciept. I personally returned a GPS last year to Wal-Mart because I just didnt like it. Didnt catch any flack at all. A lot of stores will try to deny your return, but if you stand your ground they will honor it. The store just doesnt want to go through the trouble of getting credit from the manufacturer.
Hell the company I work for will return crap with NO reciept, and we dont even question it.

Well, you've posted this in 3 different forums and twice in the Touring forum. So at least you'll feel better after spamming it.

Where did you buy it?

Many places have a policy that if you bought it from a 3rd party you pay the shipping.

I've dealt with Garmin on several things and they have always been a stand up company.

P.S. Make sure you register it with Garmin. It comes in handy if the unit is ever stolen.

I'm with you on this a map fits nicely in the saddle bag and when you stop to check it you can find some great riding in the area from a local who will almost always walk over...lol
