I talked to another rider who had them on his bike. He was happy with them and they looked fine to me. Forgot what he said they cost but it was much less than HD.

He got them done somewhere in N. Jersey on an exchange basis as I recall. You give them yours and they give you someone elses. Other shops may do it differently. Thing I'd be most concerned about would be the quality of the work. At least from HD you know there's some measure of quality control.

Got lucky myself. For whatever reason St. Paul's Harley was trying to get rid of a bunch of chrome fork kits on Ebay. SoftailGirl posted a heads up and several members were able to get a set. At $135 shipped for normally $596 kits, I was quite skeptical but it turned out to be the real deal. Dealer installed the factory new kit on my wife's Deluxe. Wished I had bought every set they had.

Been over a year since and I haven't seen a deal like that anywhere. Probably never will.

Shows you the kind of margin HD makes on accessories.

Local plater here (with great reputation) will chrome FL lowers and cowbells for $220. I've seen the result and it's awesome. Turnaround: 1 week

I would just about bet they were sold below dealer cost...I work for a dealer and I can't get them that cheap...There isn't as much mark up on parts as a lot of people thinks there is.

When I had my independent bike shop back in the 80's I needed a part that I didn't have in my inventory. I looked-up the OEM number and found that through my distributor, if I purchased 6 of them, they would cost me $4.95/each. Because this one part was the only thing keeping the customer from riding, I called the local HD dealer to see if they had the part. I told myself I would "bite the bullet" and pay up to 3 times my cost to get the bike on the road. They told me,"That will be $24.95." I said,"No thanks." 500% mark-up! Don't tell me motorcycle dealers don't have much of a profit margin. Same thing with any recreational vehicle, boats and such.

Search ebay and you will find good deals on original kits like said before. I got brand new chrome sliders in the box for half of retail. You just have to be patient.
