Any tips on how to keep my slacks from melting on the exhaust?
I take it you are wearing dress Slacks right? Wow sounds like there is a little Polyester in those SLacks ( Just a FYI ans a PSA Polyester is not a good choice to wear on a bike I know some on whose bike hit some sand and the pants melted right to the skin it wasn't a pretty site, natural fabric is a little better) . Maybe go with a light weight wool, cotton or a nice linen slacks. Another 3 things is leg gaiters or chaps or wear jeans and change when at work.

The pair that melted was definately polyester, the majority are not. Even with the cotton ones, I've noticed singe marks on them. I think the straps metioned above is the way I'm going to proceed, to much of a PIA to wear chaps, or change at work for a measly 2.9 mile ride

Cotton dockers or like brand will work. I've never had a problem and ride to work almost everyday.
