If you bought the Ultra to ride and not sell in two years I wouldn't worry about posible trends in resale. The days of selling your Harley for as much as you bought it for are over (at least for now). With under 13,000 miles it is still close to new, so take care of it and enjoy it. Remember, Harleys are not the flavor of the month kind of motorcycle.

Last January the smart money was writing Harley off! The stock had fell below $14 a share and all the doomsayers were piling on. If you had bought that stock last January you would have doubled your money!

Harley is dedicated to a host of cost cutting measures and innovation will also have to be part of the mix. Products to sell to a buying public that has less discretionary cash to spend for recreation vehicles. They will have to overcome the low powered and hot reputation since EPA's last emissions standards kicked in.

I believe they will have to come up with some cheaper models and depend on volume of scale. Making less money on more units to stay profitable.

Or figure out how to sell a Harley to a Chinaman!

Totally gay unless you're a chick... my wife wanted an all-white Ridley with the pink flames when we first started looking for one for her... we came pretty close to buying it... glad we didn't though. She ended up with a purple V-Star 650 as her first bike, which we traded on a road trip for her current black '08 V-Star 1100 Classic (after the damn stator went out on a Saturday, and the Yammie dealer in Fayetteville said it would take three days to get the replacement part and we had to be home the next day. Got ripped on that deal!)

I do like the white pearl Ultras a lot. They just sparkle in the sunlight... but they aren't ALL white...

What's next?
I wonder what ever happened to all those Buell Blast motors?
492cc, 5 speed....hmmmm
would make a good starter or commuter bike.
Just sayin.

The next successful trend in motorbikes is going to be directly affected by the current economy. After struggling through a big downturn in the economics of the home, folks that managed to survive the crunch will be looking for a way to celebrate while still keeping their mind on their money. When it comes to those that chose to celebrate by purchasing a motorbike, successful companies will design, produce, and market a line of models that will ease these buyers back into owning.

If HD did factory-refurbished machines, I think there would be a market for bikes that were traded in at the dealership.

Cool

Baggers with 26" front wheels...

Also seeing a subtle introduction of folks using performance parts on their Harleys - High end suspension, performance brake calipers, billet parts that make sense and help shed weight...

Here's a nice (Bagger) example
