Another thing you could do is check for any recalls on that particular model. Mine had one concerning the main breaker which was reported to react in a similar manner. Called MOCO yesterday, and then the local stealership. Although mine is a '99, and the recall was activated ten years ago, the MOCO agreed to honor the replacement using local dealer.

If you can get the vin number, here's a link you can check for that...

My bike is a 2000 and has a carb. There are trouble codes, but not as extensive as the late model FI and ECM bikes. I would ask the owner to have the problem checked out at the dealer and fixed before you purchase the bike. If he gets it taken care of, it sounds like you are getting a pretty nice

Thanks for the info harleydavis! I sent the owner a message earlier about seeing if the service manual had instructions to pull the codes. Have not heard back. Would be nice to learn that it was something simple that didn't cost a lot to fix.
