Make it easy to give money, allow people to donate money at the stop, do not bury the event table in the back corner of stop.
Some people find it difficult to pre-purchase poker cards before an event.
Maybe they could purchase at one of the spots.
IF you go the "open" poker run format:
1-Consider that some folks will join the run at one of the stops.
2-Others quit before it ends.
3-Sometimes some motorcyclist find out too late or you pick them up along the ride.
*Important: make it easy to give the money
**some individuals like to join the run and donate but wish to do it at their own pace.

I did my first poker run ever this past fall and enjoyed it alot. The only thing I didn't like was they put the winners on the spot by asking them to donate their winnings back to the cause. So, my suggestion is not to do that!

Usually... except when you're not quoting in the response. Then when you hit the back button, it's gone. I usually copy my response to the clipboard just in case I have that problem, but it was late, I was tired, I screwed up.

Less stops at bars would be nice. Most poker runs are nothing more than organized drinking tours. I saw a bad car/bike accident during a run last summer.

I agree with other posters, I don't like to ride if every stop is a bar. Then you end up riding with drunks and that is not healthy. Lots of door prizes (get as many donated as possible) free food for participants, T shirt if a charity run and the shirt is neat. Best hand, worst hand. No non leo personnel acting as street blockers. You will not only be illegally blocking traffic but assuming responsibility for accidents. AZZclowns at one here were passing the pack to get to the next intersection going uphill, into a curve on a 2 lane road with solid yellow lines . Talk about pucker factor ! Give a handout with the route on it at registration. Some donuts here would be good. you may know where to get some (jk). Advertise ! If a charity run, think about getting a local radioo personality who rides to partner with you and let him advertise. Even if it becomes "his" event, the charity still wins.

Make it fun...no fun no riders next time.

Good luck

Good maps.

If you do a Poker Run style, make sure the maps are readable and show the locations accurately.

Last couple of Poker Runs I went on had hand written (poorly) maps and crap directions to the exact spot. ("stop at bill's place". I'm not from this area and I don't know who the hell Bill is or where his place is)

Make sure your location people are there at the start and stay until they are supposed too. Been through Poker runs where card holders just decided to go somewhere else for the rest of the day.

How to make a poker run more fun? Get the Hooters Girls out at each stop. Just a thought.
