Default Sucker Punch Sally's

Anyone here dealt directly with this shop? As I kick around ideas for a "next bike", their rollers look appealing for the price. Finished bikes are nice, too. My plan is to buy a lightly used late-model Sportster and build it myself, but sometimes I think I'd rather just ride...

I have been to the Sucker Punch St. Louis shop. They seem very nice. Didn't buy a bike from them (not the right time for second bike), but they answered all my questions.

This isn't my personal experience and not meant to slam SPS, but i'll just toss it out there into the wind. My local Indy has had a SPS in there owned by a local (out of warranty I guess) and it had a broken frame weld or something to that effect, and the mechanic, who I trust to know, said he would look elsewhere if buying a bike like that, as he didn't feel their frames were up to snuff. I guess there have been other issues too. I didn't get the details, but other than that, I haven't heard anything negative. I guess that considering you are getting pretty much an S&S or an EVO engine on most of these builds are using name brand, quality components...it is the stuff like frame welds and such that really start to matter. This issue they saw could have of course been a rarity, and the bike could have been ridden hard or into the ground, although supposedly it is female owned and ridden little.

That being said, I like their stuff a lot. My next bike will prob be a hardtail shovel build, and SPS, Brass *****, Flyrite and the others will be up for bid

First, check the international motorcycle show web site out. Went to their SE Michigan show yesterday, number one sponser is Progressive insurance. Anyway, big central display for Progressive with attached area for SPS, who had several bikes on display, including one with a Progressive theme. Don't know if they tour with the show, just had bikes at this one.

Though I've seen many of SPS' bikes, after watching a friend put together a roller he's convinced himself (and anyone watching his build) that it would have been much easier to start with a used Nightster (or similar Sportster) and build a bobber off of it.

I understand from a 'boom-time' chopper builder that banks are loath to finance 'special' or 'project' bikes these days so you'd be better off finding financing on a HD.

Take a look through the Sportster Bike Picture section here on the forum for some outstanding examples of riders who started with one and built fantastic bobbers.

I like the SPS bikes...Aces & Eights H-D in Mason repped for them, before the dealer closed and changed hands...

That being said, I think their prices are getting a little high...Brass ***** makes a real nice comparable bike called the Model 1 that's priced a lot less than SPS's bottom line...
If I were in the market, I'd probably go with that one...

And as someone else mentioned, Flyrite is putting out some nice stuff priced right...

If you're going to build up from a roller there are less expensive options. I haven't got direct input on SPS quality, but I do know there are several custom frame builders that have long reputations for quality. Careful shopping should give you the parts to build a Evo engined bobber with a new HD engine for less than $8,500 plus paint. There are undoubtedly many partially completed projects out there you could buy into at a good price.

HD Dealer Here in South Florida " Bruce Rossmeyer's Harley"...(Big Dealer) They Carried Sucka Punch bikes for awhile... The only reason the thought even entered my mind to buy one, was that here was a major dealer selling the bikes...hence service it, or stand by it if something went seriously wrong. The dealer does not carry them any more for the major reason that $25,000 Choppers just don't sell... Baggers/touring are way in right now..(See "Harley" TRIKE) The chopper craze is over. They weren't selling, and yes, they did get a couple back for minor mechanical repairs that prob shouldn't have happened.. But if you find a good one, maybe one Repo'd or selling cheap... Buy it,...I think they are the best of the Small MFG.
You Can't Build a Sporty Chop to look the same for the same amount... You Buy a $8000 Sporty and a $2000 frame and apes, wiring, etc etc etc...you still got a $8000 Sporty with extra you never get your money back.

My 2 Cents and Worth Every Penny.... "Country Fried"
