Decisions, decisions...which model HD??

I don't know where you are located, but around here (DE,MD & PA) all the dealers have a full stock of used bike of all kinds and if you show any interest at all they will gladly roll them out for you to test ride.
I rode quite a few used bikes of different models before I bought my FXDC. Sure glad I did, it was a model that I had not even considered before riding a few different models.
Take your time to make the selection you will be happy with. You don't have to rush in there will always be another good deal coming up.
Also, don't look back after you do decide and buy you will more than likely see deals that you wish you could have taken.

Ok, after 27 years of not riding (previously a BMW R90S), I've decided to start my upcoming retirement with a Harley. Been checking out the local dealers and I narrowed it down to the 2010 Fat Bob. I also like the look of the Fat Boy Lo.
I've tried to make sense of the differences. The Fat Boy Lo is $1,300 higher, but I don't see what you get for the money. In fact, the Fat Bob has dual front discs which most Dynas and Softails don't have. I've only heard good things about the Fat Bob.
To further complicate matters, a friend is selling an '05 Fat Boy with 4,200 miles with literally $30,000 just in upgrades, accessories, and chrome. I can get this bike for about the price of a new Fat Bob. Some of the goodies this bike has is:
95" big bore kit
V & H pipes
Power Commander
Custom paint
lowered front & back (1" - 2")
chrome wheels, swing arm, forks
chrome EVERYTHING
loads of custom details
I just want to get opinions of anyone with experience with these models.

So, Fat Bob vs. Fat Boy Lo.
I've demoed the Fat Bob a couple times. It's a fun bike to ride and I like the looks. It was actually my #2 choice, but i wasn't going to spend that kinda money on #2
Never ridden a Fat Boy but I do have a Softail. Fat Boy Lo looks SICK in person. It's a sweet ride.
Price difference: Couple of things... Softails feature the counter-balanced motor (ridged mounted, instead of rubber, like the Fat Bob). Probably some added cost there. Also has a slightly more complicated frame/hidden rear suspension. Plus the cost of "cool" just for having a softail.
I wouldn't get hung up on the dual front brake. My Night Train stops without a problem with a single front brake setup.
Anyways... Get the Fat Boy Lo. It's freakin sweet.

If I was retiring, and you say you keep things for a long time too, I would be out "touring". Now that's a huge hint

I say dont complicate your choices too much...Both are great bikes but also have some considerable differences so just pick the one you like the most and enjoy!!!
