Dyna Beads. your tire balances itself continuosly

 

I just had to tires put on today. They balanced both at the dealer.

When you balance with wheel weights, the wheels are only perfectly balanced that brief moment they are on the balancing machine. Once the rubber meets the road, the wheel becomes more and more unbalanced where they have to be rebalanced again.

First I mount my tires and then I balance them. What's the big deal?

Dyna beads for sure. Some people even use BB's. They work too.

 

Many times when you "index" the tire when mounting you can get by without adding weights.

The tire comes with a painted dot on one location. Most rims have a colored dot on them. Mount the tire and rim to these dot locations.

I have mounted a number of sets of tires this way and they were balanced without weights.

My memory is poor on the dot location. I think it is the lightest spot on the tire and the heaviest on the rim. All tires have the dots on them but not all rims as the colored dot on them can wear off.

Some will keep moving the tire on the rim to find a good balancing point.

 

i was a tech at a small shop for 10 years, never balanced one tire, then i worked at a dealer, had to balance evry one, even had to send a 1/4 of them back to the manufacturer because they were too out of balance to fix with weights... i have had a cbr1000 over 160mph with a patch on the tire(i had a death wish for a while when i was younger), with out the tires balanced, no problems... dont worry about it unless your having a vibration problem.. really

 

I have been riding on handmounted, not balanced tires for 20 years and never had a vibrator. If I ever get one, I'll balance it. My tires last just as long or longer than the next guys and my bikes ride just as smooth.

The dot on the tire goes where the valve on the rim is. Tires are supposed to be prebalanced. Don't know if they actually are.
