i can spit on 6 from my house, though, so i'll take my $500,000 elsewhere

If I did have that kind of money I don't think I would open an HD dealership today.

When I visit my local dealer they look pretty lonely, not many buyers out there in this economy and I don't think it is going to get much better any time soon.

Hard to disagree with that.

Especially since they will likely be offering you one of the Dealerships that already closed due to hardship.

taking over the local one seems like it would be easier (and cheaper)

The requirements that the buyer has to meet for taking over one are the same as starting a new one. My buddy took over 1 and started 4 new ones after that. Each one of the new ones became easier to get approved through HD though.

Hey, ANYBODY wants to get serious about this kinda thing, I could come up with enough to buy in. We get 5-10 of us involved as primary types and 5-10 as investors and we could probably raise enough... We could run a TRULY rider friendly joint. Hellz yes.

I think the trend for the next few years is going to be "smaller is better." I think the folks that can manuever quickly will win out for a while.

I've been a musician for 30 years and I can tell you that the ups and downs of the Big Industry have done nothing to affect the guys at the bottom end. Us musicians who make a living playing clubs and selling cd's at shows are doing just fine by running our biz close to the ground and staying fast.

It'll be the same in the motorcycle industry I think. The Big Guys will still rule the roost because they're so damn big, but real money can be made by catering to folks in ways that the Moco can't, or won't.

CUSTOMER SERVICE will win out. Pre and post sales customer service, baby. In this market, David can kick Goliath's ***, if he wants to.
