Do you really do a " PRE RIDE CHECK? "

RE: Do you really do a " PRE RIDE CHECK? "
I probably do at least parts of the list every time.
1-check fuel -- Always check how many miles since last tank so I know if I need gas now or not.when leaving every stop along the way as well.
2-adjust mirrors -- On the road if required which is often especially if the wife has been riding with me since she hangs her helmet on the mirror and straps it around the handlebar to keep it from falling as we go in places.
3-check oil level -- once a week or before a longer ride.
4-check controls, brakes, throttle, clutch, shifter. -- Check all that as I back out and fire her up (driveway is on a hill so brakes are always tested )
5- check steering for smoothness. --ditto #5
6- check tire condition cracks, balance, etc. once a week andbefore any longer ride or afterI have ridden near construction.
7- check tire pressure --I don't check every time but if I feel even the slightest squish I do check.
8- check ALL electrical equipment, switchs, stop lamps turn signals , horn, etc. -- on the road or starting up
9- check for gas, oil, or hydraulic fluid leaks. --Yes, I usually scan the floor for any spots I also do this when I back the car or truck out.(old habit)
10- check belt adjustment. -- monthly or before a longer ride
11- service motorcycle as necessary. --and use the motorcyle jack that I use to even wash the bike, which is often also.

I used to more frequently. Now I Check fluids and eyeball tires. For a while I'd check tire pressure every long trip. Last summer I checked tires and after screwing on valve stem cap I apparently twisted the o-ring thereby slowly releasing air. Flat tire, middle of nowhere, 95+. DOH!

My dad was a pilot and the walk around was drilled in to me. It has paid off on the bike and the car....never an on road breakdown..ever...This week I noticed a bit of shine on the banjo bolt on the front caliper. A touch confirmed a slow leak with a loose banjo bolt.....a loss of fluid on the front brake while riding is not a good thing.

Most of the time. Air pressure, check tires. And ever now and then, I check the oil when I gas up. That way it is warm when I check it.

Mirrors, levers, brakes, lights, and signals, and a visual check of tires is usually done each time, or at least once a day. Must say, I just went to Wal-mart and didn't check anything after I'd been in the store and left from the parking lot. Oil and tire pressure usually gets checked every few days and everything gets a run over before long trips. My manual also says to check the transmission fluid level, which I do less frequently than the oil. I haven't noticed any drop in fluids at all.

I'f I'm going on a long ride I will check most everything.
When I wash the bike I'll check things out also.
I commute 4-5 days a week on my bike.I pretty much know how it's running and handling.I'll check the oil once a week.

Probably should do more often. I do a brief visual on the tires for low pressure and thats probably not the best but I can usually notice a small difference in how the tire looks.
