Engine warm-up time
#13
Here's what I do. Both my bikes are FI bikes. If this is the first ride of the day then I pull them out, do the quick check over and start it. I let it run while I have a smoke and get my gear on then ready to ride. When I stop and the bike has not sat that long like an hour or so I just start it up and let it run for a min and go. The older carbed bikes need more warm up time then the newer FI bikes. I also try not to run them super hard till they are warmed up all the way.

never thought about it. I start her up, back her out of the garage, put on my gloves and helmet, roll down the drive and clunk it into 1st. I'm about 6 blocks (through a subdivision) to the freeway - so it's an easy ride until the superslab.

I was talking to our local HD tech a while back and asked him this same question. Mine is injected so he told me to let it warm up for about 3-4 minutes before taking off. Once done you are good to throttle it and go. That time frame is just about how long it takes me to finish my smoke, put on my jacket, glasses, etc., so it is no problem.

Mine is FI, already have my jacket, gloves and helmet on, start it up, back it out of the garage onto the street. Close the garage door, then take off gently for the first mile or so

Okay, okay, I run a Bendix on the pan, and a Super E on the shovel.
I let both of them warm up, til I have the chokes off, and they idle down, without 'prompting'.
The pan is particularly susceptible to spitting and dying, IF you don't let it warm up, enough. And kicking a semi-warmed up pan, on the side of the street, is no "F"in' picnic.
With her 'new' EVO Sporty, I tell her to keep 'testing' the choke off, til it will run on it's own, then mount and go. That way I know, she has let it warm up, enough.
