That what I was wounding too if it fell of the jack. I do believe it a tank cover.

I am looking at both these jacks (J&S and Pitbull) but are the stops on the Pitbull there to support the bike so that you can relieve the pressure on the jack, or are they just safety stops in case of a slow bottle jack leak, and not intended to support the bike for a long period of time? The J&S shows getting the bike on the stops right away and relieving jack pressure, which I like. The Pitbull doesn't show this, and in fact Pitbull offers a separate stand in lieu of keeping the bike on the lift.

Seems like the J&S is better both for storage and for keeping pressure of of the bottle jack once the bike is lifted, but maybe the stops on the Pitbull are there to support the bike too (e.g. to use for long-term storage, etc.) and I just haven't seen anyone mention this fact. Thanks for anyone's help on this.

Yes they are there to support the bike. The PitBull has 3 different stops for 3 different height settings. Yes you can store the bike on the lift. The PitBull will go a little higher that the J&S and it's cost is a little higher too.....LOL

Awsome price on that lift. I finally decided on the J&S but the Pit Bull was a close second.

The PitBull lifts approximately 6" higher than the J&S. You can see in one of my pics in this thread how high it lifts. That means you can work on 6" more of your motorcycle, vertically, without having to bend or kneel, as compared to the J&S.
