Heavyweight motorcycle operator's license?

At one time Georgia (and perhaps some other states) differentiated motorcycle licenses by displacement. You could be licensed to ride bikes up to 500cc, or bikes of any displacement. I don't think GA does this anymore, but perhaps some states do.

It depends on displacement. It all started when people were taking their tests on scooters to pass the driving part of the test. If you used a scooter to take your test, than thats all your legally allowed to operate. If you used a full sized motorcycle, it's considered a heavyweight.

This thread sort of reminds me of when I took my riding test. There was this short older lady that showed up on a 70's full dress Harley. All us guys took the test, but none of us aced it (got a 95 myself). Then she pulled onto the course...and you know she got a 100. Everyone's jaws were on the ground.....including the instructor. Some of the best slow speed riding I've ever seen

I've had a motorcycle endorsement on my license since late 60's in Ga and never seen one based on displacement. Must have been way back.

When I got my motorcycle endorsement in the mid 70s in Wisconsin your rating depended on the size of the bike you tested on. If it was under 500cc then that's as big as you were licensed for. If it was over 500cc then you could ride anything. Not sure when it was changed, but now there is only one endorsement in Wisconsin for all sizes bikes.
