Who had a "Weird" or "Great" First Bike...
Back in 1964 I bought my first bike, a 125cc Capriolo (Italian made).. supposed to out run honda 90, (my other choice), easy the dealer said.....So I bought one,,,,, Not......
It was "supposedly" made by its sister company, Ducati
Heres a picture of one just like it.... Mine was just like the maroon one.
http://www.cybermotorcycle.com/galle...Roy_Dagger.htm
The dealer said it was a real winer..... so many things went wrong with that POS that I dont have the time to type it all..
Example,,,, in the first 3k---over 20 each, clutch and throttle cables;. 1 carbuator, (Dealer messed it up rejetting);,, 1 piston, jug, cam and crank, by the way dealer said those are not covered Items in the warranty.....all this and more in the first 2700 miles....and in less than the 90 days warranty....
My brother said they made two of them.... the first one they junked and I bought the second one.......
Its probably worth a lot more If I had it now than back them... at least to an Itialian..........
Dad and I went to the regional distribitor and they us gave and furnished all the parts to fix her and get her running...
Which I traded her off on a CB 305 as soon as I could ride it to the Honda dealer....
Any one else have a Good or Bad expeirence with their first bike....

i'm only 22 but i've had two bikes in my short two-wheeled career.
the first was a great learning/bonding/riding experience.
my dad and i shopped around for about a year looking for something to fix up as my first ride. we found a 1990 heritage that a guy had laid down on the highway near my house. bike sat untouched for 4 years after the accident. we bought it as is for $3500 and brought it home. all the extras on the bike took the punishment from the crash...engine guard, bags, riding lights in front, etc.
we stripped it down to the frame and rebuilt it, father and son side by side. got a set of 1999 fatboy tins in sinister blue, v&h big radius pipes, rejetted the carb, s&s air cleaner cover, new chrome front end from harley, new chrome spoke wheels, carlini drag bars that came off my dad's softail, and a whole bunch of other chrome goodies. (pics of the bike are in my album).
all told we put about 5 grand into the bike and it was 100% completed by the day i got my license. this season i put 5000 miles on it (first season on two wheels - not too shabby if i must say) before a cant-miss deal for my current ride landed in our laps.
picked up my street bob from a police auction for 5,500 bucks and started wrenching on that the same way.
sold the softail for 7500 and made some lucky guy real happy with his new bike.

This was my first bike a little 50 that was not so little and I swear it would do 50mph it was called TS 50 J Gaucho 1972, had one never saw another. I also had a 72? 125 Bultaco Pursang motocross bike that felt like it's powerband was between 7-8k rpm or it would stall and when it went you had to just hang on.

Wow! I had one of those, and a TC90, and a TS100. Loved those little bikes.

My first bike was a 1972 Triumph Bonneville that cost me $500 bucks. It wasn't running when I bought it and wasn't running when I sold it 2 years later.
Between those two times I spent almost $3000.00 dollars, about 300 hours, and was lucky to get about 30 hours of riding out of it.
I had a complete wiring harness custom built for it, rebuilt the clutch, rebuilt the front brakes and if I wanted to go for a ride on a Saturday, I started working on it around 8:00am and along about noon got it running...
My girlfriend's dog chewed the seat into bits and THE NEXT DAY I found a replacement seat from the same year for $5.00 dollars at a yard sale... awesome.

Here's my first back in 1980. Never took lessons or was legally licensed. I had many close calls, and in the end ended up in a ditch. Lucky to have walked away...bike not so lucky.

A Schwinn/Whizzer chopper. At age 14, got my first ticket on it.. something about a drivers license. Next one, a few years later was a KHK.

My first bike that I owned was a 1971 Yamaha XS650. Great bike. It's a better Triumph than the Triumph. (seriously: Yamaha recruited many Triumph engineers, when Triumph started to falter financially, to help them build a better 650cc parallel twin--the XS650 is a lot like the Tiger, but it actually runs )
About 5 years ago I found another 1971 XS650 that was left in a shed for ~20 years. Took a bit of love, but it rides great, and I get that same kid's smile I used to have on the other one.
