Thanks, that resolved the issue, I wasnt even looking at that icon, i was turning the ignition on and waiting for the fuel pump to pressure up and shut down, then starting, thats to soon. started my bike 5 times today waiting on the engine light to go out and not one single pop.
Glad it was an easy fix for ya. Sometimes, the folks selling these bikes don't know as much about them as we wish they did.

Mine starts with sort of a snap, then a little crackle and finally a pop. I'm told it's normal on the 96.
My breakfast cereal made that noise....it worried me so much I switched brands. Maybe thats the solution....either don't start the bike or switch brands....LOL
Seriously though I think what causes the occasional/intermitent exhaust pop on start up is dependent on the stroke (or position) the engine is in when it is shut down. When you have an immediate ignition (power)/exhaust stroke as soon as the engine is rotated with the starter motor at cranking speed it could and does cause an exhaust backfire at times. Of course there are other variables too...an injector that may weep when fuel pressure is cut, or a slightly rich idle mixture on carbed models.
