In warm weather I do not wear jeans under them. Only in VERY cold weather do I wear pants under them. Wish I had had them a long time ago. Not having to carry chaps on trips means that much more room in my saddle bags.

Pricey!!.........but interesting....

I wear them when the temps drop below 45 or so. All my riding is 55mph and up out here and they cut the wind quite effectively. They store away in the bags easily.

When I ride in temps in the 40's (and lower), I wear my rain pants over my jeans as well as 1-2 layers of thermal underwear (depending on how cold it is). I have ridden comfortably for several hours in below freezing temps with this setup.

It has been my experience that cold legs can be a sneaky detriment to staying warm. You may not "feel" the cold in your legs, but cold legs can slowly cool the rest of your body. Several years ago after riding a couple of hours in 30 degree temps, I started shivering about a half hour after I got off the bike and was in a warm building. At first, I could not figure out what was going on, for I did not really feel cold on the bike. Later, I figured out that my legs had gotten cold without the wind protection and had slowly cooled the rest of my body. I started wearing the rain pants to block the wind --- that seemed to solve the problem.

Starting in the 40's and below. Might add thermals under the pants if it's cold enough. I think that the guys goofing on chaps are the same ones that seem to disappear when the weather drops below 50...The only time I give in and get in my truck is when it's raining. Los Angeles traffic is bad enough on normal days. Way too many morons in the rain...

no matter what the price...chaps are worth it!

try some...you'll be amazed at the comfort level. Just make sure you have them long over the boots so the wind does not get under them.

Just get a good pair of chaps, don't cheap out on them. Their good for the cold weather, and when you run into a cold rain.Just mink oil them or snow seal or any other leather protectant.
