Default How are you SAFELY heating your garage??

Looking for some tips on heating my garage only when needed for weekend projects over the winter.

Only stand-alone and safe heaters please...I don't want to run vents from my house or anything. I have a LP gas blower, but the fumes seem like a bad idea. I don't want to vent my garage because cracking the door open would be counter productive and let more cold air in.

What can I use as I begin my winter projects? It's about 14 deg outside! Garage is a 3-stall and connected to the house with big attic above it.

I just finished wiring up 30amp 240volts for this Heater and if I need to borrow the TIG welder from work one day

Granted its a single car garage, this heater makes it T-Shirt toasty in less than 1/2 hour!

Wow, that is cool!

I'm looking for something I can just plug into a 120v outlet...or if you think gas is a safe option...not sure.

You will never get enough heat from a 120v heater, a 240v construction heater will heat things up nicely and more economically.

Was thinking 2 of these...they will each heat 500 sq ft and have fan to push the air.

I have two of the oil filled units that look like an old steam radiator. They are fantastic! When I was still building houses I could heat an entire house with just two of these on each floor. There is no exposed elements to catch fire and you can even spray paint around them without having to worry about the fumes igniting.

I have a 45K BTU Reznor haning from the ceiling. Safe as any gas furnace. $1,200 installed and it keeps the cars and bikes toasty in the winter. I keep it at 65 which is the lowest temp that I can work in a t-shirt at. In the summer I keep it at 68.

For portable temporary heat the oil filled ones are pretty safe. Would not use the contruction heaters unless in attendance. Not sure of the problem with them, but heard the fire department on the radio saying not to use them for continuous garage heat as trhey have proven to be a significant hazard. In this area, with an attached garage, insurance will not permit any kind of combustion heat with a flue.

I have a ventless gas heater. works great.
turn it on, come in the house and eat dinner, go back out and work in a t-shirt or a flannel if its really cold outside.

I use one similar to this and leave it on low all winter. Works great and you can't beat the price!

Probably the same thing these other guys have mentioned.
