If your not needing to use all the garage spend about 60 dollars at your local hardware store and get some 2x4's and some tarp and petition you off a spot in the garage to suit your needs and buy a portable electric heater works great been doing it for years and you can use your material you bought every year works for me no need to heat all the space if not needed

I had a couple space heaters in my garage for a while and felt they were not a safe way to heat.

My solution was not a plug in like you wanted, but it worked for me and I believe it actually uses less electricity than the space heaters I was using before.

It's rated at about 18,000 BTU and does a nice job keeping the garage warm. I leave it on all the time. I think it costs about $300 and it would need to be wired to 240V.

I just recently finished insulating and heating my two car attached garage. The insulation helped so much I couldn't believe it. I put R13 in the walls and ceiling (most of the garage was already done, but one whole wall and a couple partial walls weren't) and two Owens Corning R7 garage door insulating kits on the door. Without running the heater, so far it's stayed around 60 degrees in there just from the heat off our cars and the radiant heat from the house. I also wired up a 240v outlet and installed this heater:

The thing works GREAT. I'm very satisfied, and the whole job was not expensive at all.

We just hooked up a 30,000btu propane/natural gas combo heater in my garage tonite. Got it half price from Lowes this past spring when on clearance for 125.00. Works great, turn on a hour before working on bikes... I put 2 -100 pound bottles outside hooked together.. Tried the kerosuns, but smell gave us a headache!!! Didn't want heat all rhe time, just weekends. This works great!!.. Fire it up a hour before work, nice and toasty!!! Kerosun's about burnt garage down, thought had enough ventalation but smoked garage up, sooted everything 1 weekend!!! NEVER AGAIN!!! THEY ARE 4-SALE NOW.. Mark

I use one of these - a 4 bar 240 volt Halogen heater. It was given to me last year by a mate after my old gas heater packed in and it really shoves out some heat. Approx 1/2 hour on full and it can be turned down to just two bars. Pretty safe to use - it goes off if it's knocked or falls over, but you have to be careful not to trail wires from drills and other tools in front of it (don't ask me how I know but it makes a very big bang!!) Pretty cheap to buy as well.

My garage stays @ 75 degrees 24/7 for about $6.00 a day using a Englander wood pellet stove.
