My first long trip - Maine to Florida

Damn
My wife packs lighter than you do! LOL
Glad you had a good ride and a safe trip.
I'm 51 and just getting started. I did 850 miles in one day a few months ago and I'm hoping to ride from North Carolina to California next year if I can work it out. I wish I was 44 again, I'd do it twice!

Ok first packing tip
Take exactly half the clothes you'll need for a trip. Subtract from that total any T shirts you intend to buy. Clean skivvies and socks plus t shirt are essential. You can wear jeans two days. Exactly halfway through the trip, hit the hotel laundry and wash your stuff. Then you're good to go for the rest of the trip.
Tip2
Get yourself some of those vacuum bags to pack in, you know the kind you zip lock and squeeze the air out of. Stuff takes up less space that way.
Tip3
Check the forum for what other folks carry as a road tool kit. Get it.
Tip 4 Packable rain suits can double almost as chaps in cold weather. They block the wind and really that's all chaps do. Layer clothing if needed. Dual purpose.
Tip 5 as other said, UPS stuff to and from your destination.
Do NOT EVER ride your bike as loaded as you had it there. You were a hazard to yourself and an accident waiting to happen. Glad you made it there and back.
PS we stop about every 150 miles for fuel and for a 10 minute walk around break. drink lots of fluids and don't push yourself too hard.

Hey Heavy Metal man you were loaded to the hilt.
Memories were made and no one can take that away from you.
Never say Never ..... I am slightly older 49 and almost to hit he big 50 this Sunday 12/6. I did a similar trip last year and get this on a '07 1200 Sportster. (3days down = 1,160mi) (4days back =1,462mi) - I loved every sun scorched blistering moment. I needed the trip you see. Divorced after 29yrs and (2)grown kids - Lost Job - Bought house back - Lived off of 401K . So I had plenty of time. Trip took me to Charlotte, -Savannah - Gulf Coast of FL Back to Athens,GA -Atlanta -Knoxville, and Huntington WV.
After a deer downed my Sporty and myself on August 31st of '08. I now have an '08 Softail FXSTC. and I would just love to have another long ride but I now have all those old responsibilites back new wife, new job, new mortgage. So ya see be glad that you did it. There are those out there that only dream it.
Oh, before you go again for safety visit the following site to see how much load your bike can handle and how to pack. http://www.unsafemotorcycles.com/weight_and_riders.html
Congratulations you have memories.

The reason the bike was so loaded, was I was moving! I sold all my furniture and whittled it down to what you see on the bike. The old lady's bringing the big screen tv and the snake tank, I couldn't fit em on the saddlebags LOL
And yeah, I would do it again, but pack for the trip, not for a move. I also need new handlebars, I haven't decided between hangers or beach bars, I like the look of both. The stock seat on the bike is comfortable as hell, but the handlebars suck.
This is my uhaul, without the Jed Clampet look

What was in the red bag? Jethro's vittles?
No matter....you got the bragging rights now!
You rode to Florida. (let us know when you are back...it will be better!)
