Florida Woman Gets 18.5 Years for Killing Motorcyclists in Car Crash
Thursday, November 26, 2009
VERO BEACH, Fla. — A Miami woman convicted of killing two motorcyclists on Interstate 95 in Indian River County has been sentenced to 18 1/2 years in prison.
A judge sentenced 26-year-old Dominique Brice on Wednesday. A jury found Brice guilty last month of vehicular manslaughter.
Authorities say Brice was speeding and weaving through traffic in February 2008 when she hit Fritz Doucet and Raul Ortiz. They were recently reunited high school friends going to Bike Week in Daytona Beach.
Brice's brother and two small children were in the car.
Another driver on the interstate, who testified at the trial, had actually called 911 to report an erratic driver just moments before the crash.
Brice said she was just changing lanes when another car forced her out of control.

Sounds like she was "out of control" the minute she sat behind the wheel.
I don't know what it's gonna take for people to drive responsibly. I think that if you cause an accident & someone is injured, your license should be automatically suspended for some period of time.

sweet justice! 18 years without one more bad driver on the road.
you're never going to stop people from being ignorant on the road, but i've always thought that people should be re-tested for their licenses every 5 years and once they turn 60, every 2 years.
there really should be some sort of license-revoke penalty for causing injury in a car crash.
aloha.

You can rob 15 banks at gunpoint and do less time.

I remember reading about this accident back when it happened. Both bikers were off their bikes and parked on the side of I-95 in the service lane. Brice was passing cars on the right by driving on the service lane at speeds far above the posted 70 mph. These guys never had a chance to get out of her way.

I believe a couple of you guys missed what she was charged with...
NOT for drunk driving or driving like an *******, but for driving a deadly weapon without a concealed weapons permit!

Yes I agree 18 yrs might be a little excessive for an accident even for an idiot, now for Mr.Lane not only was he acting like an idiot, but he was passing 2-3 vehicles on a double yellow,he was also charged with vehicular homicide plead no contest, received 6 yrs,3 yrs prob.,pays all fees incurred, revoke license for life, and settled for an undisclosed amount in civil suit with victims family no where could I find anything about the cyclist being drunk--any way I guess the judge has the final word in either case
