I agree, have never purchased one, never will...

But ahh Grasshopper it is about more than just maybe I'll need it. It is also about resale. I'll take the very same bike, same year, same mileage and same condition with a valid ext warranty vs. yours without the warranty and I bet I'll get more for it everytime and would sell it to the same buyer over yours without the warranty...and yes enough difference to justify the price. I know cause I have bought and sold many bikes and I always get the ext warranty. Sometimes I have used it sometimes not. BUT I have always gotten top dollar when I sold it in 3 years because of the added selling feature of a warranty. Now are they worth it as just a ext warranty, maybe maybe not, a crapshoot as someone said, but they do add private seller value.

Never bought one on either of my Harley's. Glad I didn't cause I never needed it. Bought both new. If anythings gonna go wrong it will probably happen within the factory warranty. I learned my lesson with an extended warranty on my '02 Chevy Blazer. It was warranted till 100,000 miles. Nothin went wrong till about 120,000 and the fuel pump shot craps.
I say don't get it.

I bought the extended warranty at the same time I bought my last two Ultras. Never used either one of them. I will not be doing it a third time.

Different strokes, BP...I've always gotten top dollar when I've sold or traded my bikes because I take care of em...I've never paid over what a bike was worth book value (and right now anyone can find good deals well below that) and I've been offered a few where someone wanted more because they came with the ex. warranties...and I passed...they took the crapshoot and they lost if they wanna make that $$ back off me...

If it pays off for you, I'm happy for you, but me and the the guys around here drive hard bargains...

Just my opinion, but I got the 3 year extended warranty because I knew I was going to put a lot of miles on the bike.

Chances are it is going to need a rebuild before the waranty expires and that would cost more than the warranty did. With the warranty it will only cost $50.

If I was planning to put less than 10K a year on the bike, I wouldn't have bought the warranty.

Yeah. What he said. If you're gonna sell your bike within 3 years (who does that?), maybe you can get some extra $$ in sales price for having the extended warranty. But with the newer bikes, and with normal maintenance and reasonable use, you probably won't be causing or running into many major problems that need warranty coverage anyway, unless you got a lemon. And that should show up within the first year with reasonable usage anyway.

And if you are an *extreme* user, pushing your bike really hard, ignoring maintenance or whatever, then you might be exceeding the limits of your warranty (std or ext'd) anyway... thus, no value in an ext'd warranty.

I don't buy extended warranty's for much of anything... cars, bikes, computers, cameras, phones, tv's, whatever. Vehicles are expensive, but it's just a matter of scale... most everything in the consumer world is so replaceable or fixable these days for only incrementally more, if any more, than ext'd warranty cost... that it's just not worth it. Companies selling the warranties are betting on that.

I find that it's a better gamble to rely on the initial quality and longevity of good quality stuff instead. You might be upgrading your vehicle/device within that time frame when the warranty applies, but chances are that the warranty will expire before any major replacements or failures anyway. But, everyone needs to judge their own situation relative to the probable timing for replacements, the expected amount of use & maintenance, etc.

Just my $0.02.

Considering they crapped all over me during the first 13,000 miles of not honoring the factory warranty . I'd never buy an extended one! I will never use the justification for buying new , "because of warranty" ever again , becaus not only did they not warranty , but the damn paper it was printed on wore my *** out even more!!!

The HD extended warranty would not warranty my engine even though a dealer did it and used SE parts(cam will come out soon) so I said no. I looked into it and even spoke to the MOCO on it. They said no its a race application. LOL . I told them I just wanted to make it up a hill with out getting off and pushing it up the hill. I did the gal laughed.
