Default paint with metalflake

i am going to paint my bike one day this weekend. I was looking towards a midnight blue, and wanted to add a decent sized metalflake. My question is, have you ever painted your own bike? and how difficult is it to put metal flake on?

Ive been researching on how to metalflake, and i seem weary on some of the ways such as using a pepershaker, using a fan to disperse the flake.. it just doesnt seem right. What do you think??

thanks

I'd practice on some scrap sheetmetal. I haven't done much metal flake but the flake I used was mixed with clear and sprayed with a special tip.

I've been talking about the same thing on a diffrent forum. Someone said to mix it in the base coat and shoot it w/a primer gun. I think I'm gonna go ask the local sales guy cuz I'm confused myself

I'd avoid a bottom fed gun. They tend to have alot more problems spraying and uneven patterns....

Different size flakes need different methods of application. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.
