That black bottle is quite nice...I think it's what makes it $10.00 a quart...

I agree, the black bottle goes well with any paint job and is much nicer for more formal oil changes.

After reading a bunch on oils, it is a popular thread starter...

U can use the 15-50, buuuuuut,!!!!!! I've seen an oil annalist on it where is brakes down and thins out to 15-40 weight really quick.......

So IMO if U have that in say below 60 temp it would probably be fine..... Like fall and spring

So, but I would stick with the V-twin 20w-50 in the hotter parts of the summer.

Just an ole Retired Machine repairman's observation.....from a lot of reading.

It shears to a 40w in about 1000 miles according to the oil analysis I have seen with the 15w50 in TC engines. I believe you would be better off with a 15w40 diesel oil like Rotella or Delo or Delvac if price is an issue. The Diesel oils seem to stay in grade longer and are even less than the Mobil1 15w50.

Either weight M1 are good. I've run them both. No problems with either. Good oil pressure, good temp. readings. V-Twin 20w-50 is twice the cost though.

So the M1 shears to a 40 weight and you think this is too thin but you recommend a 15w-40, which is a 40 weight to begin with? Huh? The oil doesn't know if it's in a deisel or motorcycle either. So you think the "special diesel oil" isn't going to shear? Hmmmm....

Don't over kill this oil thing... Yes we all want the best for our bike, but with all the different brands and pressure we tend to over kill it....

I am guilty of the same wanting the best for my bike too...

I put my all my 38 yrs of being a machine repairman experience into it and after my warranty was up and listening to the dealers...I believe Mobil 1 V-twin is the one of the best over all.... its easy to find and buy.
I am tired of the Amsoil adds and really after reading in here of the last 3 motors that had problems, they all used Amsoil oil so I won't use there oil.

It's not the money. You guys are splitting hairs here. Most wear happens on intitial startup. Well documented. Whether an oil shears to 40 weight is not a big deal to me. Todays oil is so freaking good compared to just 10 years ago, it's all good stuff. If there were a real difference between these two oils, it would show up in the oil temp. readings. I've used both and did not see a difference. Do the proper maintenance with any oil you choose. Funny how M1 puts "V-Twin" on the packaging everbody thinks it's better! I did notice lower oil temps. with both viscosity Mobile1's than the Harley synthetic though.

I use Mobil 1 20/50...I've seen analysis breakdowns and I don't feel the need to pay more for the V Twin oil...26K miles and everything is cool...
