www.heathersleathers.com and www.worshamcastle.com sell vintage bags.

Not cheap by any means but both are high quality

These are small like you are looking for and they will last you a life time.

They are from Leather Works Inc.

I have the bigger version but the smaller ones are quite thin.

How about some from Fox Creek:

Lots of styles, throw overs, with/without yoke, zip off styles, and some have backs that are stiff enough to accept ghost/ez brackets or whatever..

Thanks for the continuing ideas. Dennyo, those look pretty close. I do like the idea of asking a horsey company to custom make a set, and I may do that, although it seems like there oughta be sumthin out there, given the vast number of makers that exist.

As much as I like Fox Creek generally, I just don't love any of the bags they make. That heathersleathers operation makes some wild stuff. Actually, the worshamcastle thing may be the best bet for me. I'll keep an eye on that site.

Still kinda of in limbo on this.

Thanks.

Ah! I didn't notice the Worsham products page (was looking at their vintage stuff). This pretty much is what I had in mind:
