You should factor in the cost of any tools needed. A lift is probably a very good idea and makes the servicing much easier.

I keep very detailed records on my Ultra. I have the 3 year prepaid maintenance plan which saves me about 40% over retail rates. My bike costs 12 cents per mile for maintenance. That includes oil changes, tires, brakes, etc. Add to that about 7.5 cents per mile for fuel and that brings the total direct operating costs to 19.5 cents per mile. Indirect costs, of course, are purchase, insurance, etc.

Obviously, you can do your own maintenance and save a bunch. But, a meticulously maintained motorcycle ultimately reduces the actual cost per mile because of longevity.

There's more to the services than just changing the fluids.

I'd suggest getting the service manual and looking at what's involved, then deciding if you want to mess with it. Factor in what the dealer or an indy is going to charge ($380 or so 'round here), versus the DIY costs (including the tools you may need to buy), your time, your space, and your comfort level.

A few hundred a year if you have the tools.
Depending on how you ride a rear tire lasts about 10k miles. Tires and installation of them is expensive compared to a car.
