The same people that worry about engine braking are probably the same ones that had experienced the high crankshaft run-out issues that arise from some of these newer cranks.

Yes, I engine brake, but I do it gently and am REAL careful to not over downshift. I let the engine help me slow, but I don't ask the engine to do the bulk of the work.

A slipped crank is an awfully costly repair and it can really ruin your day.

Hell, If I traded my bike in every year (like you said), then I would not care if I twisted the crank. I consider my bike a keeper and take care of it accordingly.

I have had one slip before.

One of the factors I can think of, from overly aggressive engine braking, is faster wear of the rear tire.

This riding of your bike is a absurd notion. They are to be transported home on a trailer and kept in a Harley approved bubble to be admired by friends and familly.By riding your prized bike you may damage parts of the bike and may inflict death or injury upon yourself!

Do you know anyone who has slipped a crank? I have myself, and I know others who also have. You might want to read up on that if you have a recent model HD. (Hint: You have to split your cases when it happens).

Ignore me, I don't care.

I always engine brake coming into corners and then accelerate out. That is how I learned and it gives me a heightened feeling of control.

I just downshift about the same as upshifting. Meaning if i slowdown a little I drop one. little slower, drop another....don't remember ever having to down shift 2 or more at once.

I guess it's like most things if general; be resonable and it'll be fine.

One thing that wasn't mentioned is that the primary shoe catches hell as the lower chain

tries to form a straight line under hard decel.
