Would you buy a Harley if you couldn't change the pipes

RE: Would you buy a Harley if you couldn't change the pipes
Well, it's really nice to hear HD is getting out of Screaming Eagle business because of EPA rules, but excuse me if I don't buy it. I think they're getting out of the business because the exhaust competition is eating their lunch. I mean, seriously, how many of you are running SE pipes on your ride vs. all the others like V&H, Samson, Bag, etc. Start a poll on that one and my hunch is you'll see very few people running SE on their machines. If they were seriously concerned about EPA, emissions is a much bigger issue for them than noise reduction. While noise can be an issue, I think Harley pointing towards EPA as a reason to discontinue exhaust pipes is a pure smokescreen--pun intended.

What an interesting question. It really got me to thinking. I love Harleys for their signature sound, and the louder - the better. But I rented a bagger recently and actually liked the sound from the stock pipes too, so to answer the question:
YES
YES

I would buy one even if they had to stay quiet, but I am sure the after market would find a way to have louder exhaust that would meet emissions. The car after market still has loud exhaust. The SLP Loud Mouth cat back systems for Camaros and Mustangs is a very loud exhaust.

I would not have purchased the bike I have dreamed about if I could not change the pipes. I think the o.e.m. pipes are too bulky and ugly. I purchased the bike with the understanding with myself that the pipes would be changed at the 1k service mark.
I would have bought a Harley, just not the one I wanted.

Your Damn Right I Would.
I think that the voodoo surrounding the loud pipes is crazy. With the new vehicles today, you can be in a semi with straight pipes and not hear it unless it was right next to you. Then the crazies would still pull over on it.
They are already planning on putting something in to notify car riders that emergency vehicles are coming.
So go buy a honda or some of the other crap thats out there.
I'll ride my Harley.
