There are many contributing factors that could account for the increase in motorcycle related accidents and deaths. Just the increase in population from 1997 to 2008 would have an effect. Even if the percentage of riders stayed the same, the number of injuries and deaths would increase do to the greater numbers of riders.

Also more older folks are riding. When they go down, they don't "bounce" like the 20 yr olds.

On a serious note, I think there are a lot more newbies and less inclination to take the safety courses. The "I already know how" syndrome.

maybe they can make cars equipt with a cell phone signal blocking system when the car is in motion. THAT WILL STOP ALL THAT BS....wanna talk pull over....wanna text?...PULL OVER.....jesus what did we all do before the days of the cellular phone....

....Could be something to this, but it MIGHT just be SELF INFLICTED! The other day whilst driving down a four lane blvd. in Austin I saw a DINK ride past on a really nice high zoot chopper. Everything about him screamed "LOOK AT ME" and indeed I found I was strangely compelled to follow him just to witness his demise...he was wearing sandals, shorts, tee shirt and was TALKING ON A CELLPHONE AS HE RODE ALONG!!!!! I couldn't decide if he would drop the phone or the bike at the light! Perhaps we should start IQ testing before issuing driving permits

no different than those biker cops holding a hand held mic.....or the cops in cars equipped with computers. ive seen state cops that should have been pulled over for suspicion of DUI...playing with their computer going down the highway.
