Default Leather care problem

Hi all,

Yesterday I got rained on more than i ever have been. And it was my birthday, too! Otherwise I wouldn't have been so bull-headed about going for a putt, I was soaked to the skin after having to ride through the same thunderboomer three times (and I was frozen stiff up at 11,000 feet in the #&$% hail storm... Grrr[:'(]). Got home & set up my jacket & boots to dry and popped me into a hot bathtub...

Anyways my leather has white marks on it now -- from minerals in the rain I guess. It still isn't dry [>:] , so I haven't worked with it yet. Anyone know what will work best on it? I'm thinking saddle soap and then re-minkoil? TIA

Saddle Soap is always a good choice. Mink Oil would be fine but I prefer Neatsfoot Oil. Whatever you do let it completely dry first. A good cleaning with the saddlesoap and then start in with a liberal coat of Neatsfoot. Let it sit for about an hour or two, and then wipe it off. Repeat as many times as you have time for in the day and then before going to bed put on one more liberal coat and let sit overnight and wipe it off in the morning.

Good Luck,

Rick

I use Pecard's leather dressing products. They make some excellent 'Motorcycle Leather Dressing.' I've used it on my bags, jacket, and chaps. It keeps your leather soft and pliable, and waterproofs it too.

I bought mine from a seller on Ebay.

I use Meguires leather dressing , on my saddle and my leathers. It works for me and leaves no oily residue when used as directed. Just my $.02

Believe it or not, I use the H-D stuff, that looks like Vaseline. (Begin giggles here).

Once it's on, set the bags (continue to giggle) out in the sun and they will suck (break into guffaws) the oil right into the leather.

Doesn't mink oil smell bad?

I use this paste made of 'natural' oils and waxes. It seems to be similar to most of the commercial conditioner pastes.

Works great, waterproofs, and doesn't smell bad.

Now maybe my experience with mink oil was just a bad experience, but I don't want that smell in my house.

Don't wait till it dries. Use the saddle soap on it now.

Also use the HD Leather care / cleaner that looks like bull snot.

Saddle soap first

Bull snot second

Leather dressing third
