that or the assumption that when the rider has a close call, it was the modulator that saved him/her.

It should help you be seen. How did you come out of the accident? I'm glad your bike is on the road to better health.

I guess the flashing brake light is a waste of time and money too.

I have a tiger whistle on my bike. Similar to those deer whistles, but for tigers instead. I don't know if the deer whistles work, but I can tell you, since installing the tiger whistle, I have not seen a single tiger, much less had one run in front of me.

Probably not. A flashing headlight some times means "Go ahead", whereas a flashing brake light means "Stop or slow down". A flashing brake light might get the attention of the driver behind you who is not quite paying attention.

In Illinois it is illegal to run a modulated headlight at night.

Trains are very big.
Trains tend to make a lot of noise as they are approaching a crossing.
In spite of all that, people walk, run or drive into the path of an oncoming train on a regular basis.

What could one possibly do to a bike to make themselves more conspicuous to people like that?

I never count on them missing me... I ride so I miss them, no matter what they do.
Exactly!

My point is that if you increase the odds in the riders favor it is a good thing.
I deal with what is probable and very little in everything that is possible.I don't have the time or resources for that.

Extremely little works 100%.

Being a new rider, I have learned alot from this thread. Thnaks for the good read. I try to ride and assume nobody sees me and will do the worst moves that will not generate a positive outcome to me.

Since flashing your headlight is a fairly common signal for "Go ahead" you are increasing the odds of someone pulling out in front of you. That's not in your favor.
