I hung mine in the same place, under the tour pak. Wife likes the sound, and my kids think the bike is broke.

I also mounted a set of blue Bikerballz to the metal strap under the rear bumper. Told my wife I was making a political statement.

Default My gremlin bell install

On my softail I removed the rear running light cover ( wrap tape around the flathead screwdriver first). Then removed the bulb.
I put a small piece of shrink-wrap on the lace that came with the bell and threaded it through the center hole. Then I snaked the left lace BEHIND the tail-light wires and tied both lace ends with a square knot and slid the knot behind the light socket. Now reinstall the bulb !!! Nice clean install and the shrink wrap prevents the bell from flipping around and hitting the fender or light assembly. All in all it took about 15 minutes.
