Around here, the cops pretty much leave you alone.......unless you crack the throttle to be obnoxious. During the summer months, however, with all of the bikes coming to the beach on the weekends, the cops will ticket those who want to "stand out."

I was checking out a LEO forum that I ran across in a Google search for something and there was a thread on ticketing for loud pipes. The majority of them said they didn't bother with a ticket as long as the rider was not being obnoxious with the pipes. But there were a couple that said they would ticket for anyone with loud pipes.

No problems with LEO's around here. Most of the riders take it easy through downtown.

Where I live on the central coast they're starting to crack down some.
Don't know of anyone who has gotten cited for loud pipes but know of one local LEO who loves writing folks for altered exhaust. i.e., no cat.
Same gentleman who has given me 3 helmet tickets.

Revenue's down so citations are up,

Krusr

Now that I have a geezer glide I am enjoying my stock pipes...I can hear the radio or the C.D. player...I guess I am getting old.

Some of the small towns like I live in, that's on a popular route for motorcycles can use the revenue. They can't afford to right a bunch of tickets and discourage people from riding through the area.
