Default Used Bike prices falling?

Anyone tried to trade a late model for a 2010 model. Seem dealers in my area are giving less and less for used bikes as the new ones are'nt selling and dealers have too many used bikes.

My dealer want about 6K to trade 08 SG with 4K milesand 1,500 in add ons for a 2010 SG. Any thoughts???

I'd try to sell myself first. Also, check with another dealer or two and see if the trade-in amount changes significantly. I know my dealer has a lot of used bikes on the floor.

My dealer said he has more used bikes right now than he has ever had. 40% more than this time last year alone..............and he's not known for giving good money on trades. So he's got less in his used bikes than other dealers and still cna't sell them.

2 model year jump for $6000.00 is about right. It sucks but that's reality.

The $1500.00 in add ons won't get you anything. Dealers don't count what you added and may even hit you on them if it is something they think they need to un-mod. Take them off and e bay them.

I traded my 08 on a 09 2 months ago. They gave me a decent trade and the bike is still sitting there. In these bad economic times you can expect to get less and keep your new bike longer. Just make sure you get one you love and will keep a few years. The days of being able to trade every year for a new bike for a couple thousand dollars are gone for a while.

2000 miles a year, your current bike is barely broke in. Why get a new one?

It's fall...why would a dealer want a used bike sitting around till spring? I'd never try to get rid of a bike this time of year. Just park it and try again in the spring when the market heats up. If the economy doesn't improve he may have a different perspective.

Usually the used prices do fall this time of year, especially up in the northern US due to the riding season being about done. But as far as the economic times yes they have fallen a bit more than usual! Try selling the bike yourself or wait until late winter or spring.

Trade-ins tie up dealership capital and when cash flow is not great like right now, many cannot afford to have money they might not have invested in used cycles.
