Default 1,600 miles in two days on a Sportster?

Anybody ever done it?

Got the old lady wanting to go to Sturgis for next years rally. It is just over 1,600 miles but is almost all interstate riding, mapquest puts it at just over a 24 hour drive. 800 miles a day, 12 hours in the saddle of my 2006 1200 Custom. She was pushing trailering the bike pretty hard, but I assured her that was out of the question. She has a Butty-buddy seat and thinks she can make it on the bike. This is going to be fun or at least funny. I figure we'll make it at least to Missouri before she decides it was a bad idea.

I think that at about mile marker #650 of the first day, you're going to wish you had trailered it.

I did a 1500mi run on an Iron a month ago.
Went from Norfolk VA to the Jacksonville FL area.

Took me about 20 hours each way, made it into a 2 day trip.
On the way down I didn't know how long it would take on a bike.
My 2nd day ended up being 14 hours on the road. It was rough.

Bought some throw over saddlebags and packed everything in ziploc bags.

I really don't think we will make it the entire way, but she is hyped up about it and ready to go. Guess I won't make any reservations up there and play it by ear, or should I say ****.

My new job is killing me and I only get 3 days that I can take off at a time. With the weekend, that gives me only 5 days which is stupid to even try for Sturgis but it will make for a good road trip. I will have to find some alternate routes to stay off the interstate.

04-up Sportys are rubber mounted so should be OK, go for it, just plan your fuel stops around her range.

Yah, I took US-17 the whole way down to FL with a short stint on 95.

Since then I've bought a Mustang seat and quick detach windshield.
Night/day difference for comfort.

Rode up to York PA for the factory open house from Norfolk.
Had no discomfort at all.

The longest she has done is 6 1/2 hours in a day several times. Those rides were with 1/2 helmets. I wonder if it would be better for her in a full face helmet? Less wind pulling the helmet and blowing in her face, but at the cost of a heavier helmet.

If you only have 5-days including travel, your only going to be in Sturgis for 1-day, and you'll be to worn out to have much fun. Think hard about trailering. You and the wife can split the driving so you can go nonstop.

Its never been done. Contact the Guiness Book of World Records.

Seriously though. Nobody knows but you. With the proper seat, I can't see why it can't be done.
