I usually ride w/o a helmet at all, the first time i rode with a helmet (full-face) was when i actually laid my bike down, i think i jinxed myself. Anyway, my experience is that there is more resistance with a full-face than no helmet, i haven't tried a half-helmet, i've heard the only problem is you may get a little "lift" on the helmet from the wind. The full-face has more surface for the wind to actually hit, so you may get more resistance, which in turn will put a good strain on your (or her) neck. Have her try one on a quick run on the highway and she how she likes it, i noticed the resistance as soon as i hit the highway.

I would think more like 3 day ride. At 50 MPH average speed 600 miles is a 12 hour day of riding. With stops for gas, food and other things. The three day time would be more real.

Wise Man. Agreed no time to recover.

You may have the 20K but not her. Trust me before I started to ride it is pretty darn boring and uncomfortable riding two up. I had a 2005 1200 Custom so I know what the bike is like.

Do the BOTH of you ride for long periods at a time? Multiple 500+ trips in one day? IF not, may not be the fun that you are thinking of.

Hey, if it were me? AND, after her comment that she'd have to find a biker to go with that has faith in her?

It's on, baby. She better be ready for it because it would be brutal. She'd never make that comment again.

I'm planing on doing Sturgis next summer too, but I'm gonna take 2 weeks for the whole trip. I'm going to map out the ride on MapMyRide.com on all back roads from Ohio here and upload it on my GPS. This ole body can't take much interstate riding at 65+MPH passing big rigs with the wind coming off the tops of em. I'm going to take 3-4 days to get there and the same on the way back. Mom and pop motels are a lot easier to find in some towns and alot cheaper too.

[QUOTE=georgiabiker;5722471]Wife got a little irritated when I said I didn't think she could make it and fired back with she needs to find a biker to ride up with that does have faith in her.

"YEP" One of the best way to get a women to do something is tell them they can't.

I did a little over 1,000 miles in 20 hours from Portsmouth Va to Savannah Ga and back a couple years ago on my 05 883C Sporty converted to a 1250. I had a Mustang vintage solo seat and an HD windshield on it and it really wasn't bad at all to be honest. Just the last couple hours got kind of tiring. The worst part about it was the bike was using oil like Oprah uses toilet paper after a Taco Bell feast. I had to carry a couple quarts of oil with me just in case because it was using about a quart every 500 miles. It made it through fine though and so did I.
