why wear chaps?

I've done alot of riding Oklahoma/Texas (Dallas, Wichita Falls, Austin, Lawton, OKC, etc). It gets pretty dam cold in the winter, and I ride year round. Chaps keep me comfy until it gets really cold, then I switch to my insulated overalls.

Yup... but... once the weather starts to cool, I like to start riding off road in the Ozarks/Ouachitas. My off road season is usually from late Sept or early Oct through the winter to the first real warm/hot days in mid/late Spring.

You must either be a fair weather rider or really enjoy freezing your *** off, lol.

Chaps keep the bugs off your pants up here in Canada....help with cool weather on legs in fall and spring...and give a nice false sense of road rash hope should that happen...I think leather pants do not look good...so I go with the chaps and vote for chaps....
We wash the bugs off after every trip or two up here as the bugs are insane!

Genetial Presperation
Chaps can be taken off and rolled up and bungeed to the bike when it warms up.
Go ahead an wear leather pants, and when it gets warm, you will be misrable.
If you like peeling your genitals off your leg to go to the restoroom, have fun.
Those of us that grew up in cold climates, know the benefits of dressing in layers.
As for it looking "gay"....how would you know what "gay" looks like?
Too many guys worrying too much about what other guys are doing, me thinks.
You guys need to get that bike out of garage and ride more, and quit trying to fit in so much.

Bought my first pair of chaps about a month ago and wear them all the time now. They keep your legs warm in the cold and the bugs and grit off your pants. Also, they are a lot better than blue jeans if you go down. I honestly don't even know anyone who wears full leather pants.
