like i said I might be mistaken.. I purchased a 86 fxr. I know there was something (motorwise/transmission) between the two years... I haven't worked on em in a long time so my memory is not clear on what it was.

I just figured it was like the Pan/shovel motors. I'll check around some .look through some old manuals and see if I can remember what it was.

I was just fooling with you. There's no way to match Shovel cases with Evo heads/jugs. Completely different engines. Harley did do a god job of making the lower ends look similar though.
