Cool H.D survey?

I bought a new street glide in August , last week I got my survey from Harley care of added value, was there any benefit anyone got out of sending in the survey? Did you get more junk mail afterwards that's what I a concerned about. Who really benefits from these surveys??

I've received two of them since buying a new bike last spring. I didn't get anything for it but I was pleased to offer feedback on the dealership and the bike. I bet they use them to give ratings to their delaerships.

That's exactly what they do with the survey. Before leaving with my new bike, the salesperson prepped me as to how to answer to give them the max positive points and the minimumnegative points. I looked him in the eye and told him I'd answer honestly about my experience..all of it.

Yeah, Bubba, that's a great idea. Torch the HD survey so that the company, the dealer, AND the bikes get a negative rating. That will definitely be productive for us owners. But hey, at least you get the satisfaction of peeing on the dealer's shoes.

If there was a problem there is no valid reason to sugar coat it. If the experience was great, then of course say so. Why on earth would you do anything but speak frankly about the service. I mean what kind of warped protectionism is that? If they deserve praise give it. If not, then how can you expect them to improve if nothing is ever said.

First of all, let me put out a disclaimer: I am not nor have ever been an employee or agent for HD. But I have been in the automotive industry for over a decade, and understand how the surveys affect a manufacturer.

OK, the question was who do the surveys affect? US, the HD owners. Why? Because when an HD dealer is trashed, it is trashing HD. Now if you had a problem with the dealer pertaining to the transaction or the service, take it up with the owner and/or the general manager. If they're f'ing up, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! But when you "look them in the eye" and proceed to thrash HD, it affects YOU as an owner. Hmmm, why? Because when the brand is receiving negative feedback, the potential buyers/owners shy away from the product. So what's the problem with that? Supply and demand, my friend. When you are ready to trade-in or sell your darling, do you want maximum return, or do you want to be hawking damaged goods, since the feedback from owners is negative? Protectionism? Damn straight. I love my FXDF, and appreciate the compliments I receive on it, and want the appreciation of it to continue, ESPECIALLY WHEN I GO TO SELL IT.

So in summary, the survey falls under the "Think GLOBALLY, act LOCALLY" mantra. Trash HD, you're trashing the product you just put out hard earned dollars for, and are affecting your future market value.

But then again, maybe you don't belong in the HD family anyway, if you're not going to be loyal to the brand. Like they say, if you have to ask, you wouldn't understand. And if you don't get that, I will be more than happy to direct you to the nearest Honda or Kawasaki dealer.

Oooops, sorry, one more thing. Hey Doobie, own a house? If you do, if you have problems with any aspect of it (sanitation, noisy neighbors, law enforcement/fire department/emergency services, taxes), would you whine to a prospective buyer about it if you home was solid? Of course you wouldn't, you wouldn't want to diminish the value on your home, since that would mean money out of YOUR pocket. Catch my drift yet, or do you just like whining? No offense, just speaking plainly. Enjoy your next ride, brother.

Tray45,

The survey is sent out by HD when you purchase a new bike to see what you think of the dealer and his handling of the sale. It's not like HD is going to release the info to the general public. They just want to know if the dealer is doing his job. Lying about that is stupid.
